In May/June 2006 Amy and I traveled to central America for 1 month. We had simply the best time of our lives. Every moment was an everlasting memory. Despite the difficulties and extra costs of traveling, Amy did it all, she LOVED all the trekking, climbing, swimming, horse-back riding, and all the other activities that we did, including a few drunk nights and a LOT of laughter. We met some wonderful people, and having Amy as a travel companion, ready for everything, curious to do everything, was a precious time and will be forever in my heart.
We arrived in Mexico. Our first night having dinner (and cocktails) in Cancun
Walking around Merida
We have met our group, first stop Chichen Itza
Walking around the Waterfalls Roberto Barrios, where we also dipped and went tubing down the river
The swimming pool of our jungle lodge in Palenque
Walking up to Volcan Pacaya, Amy was the only one who got to ride on the horse!
San Ignacio, Belize, where Amy had to get rid of a huge bug in the room as i was just terrified!
Caye Caulker in Belize, the BEST night ever, we had a wonderful time partying all night, and still don't know what we drank, BUT we were dancing, and playing and piggy backing and singing the whole night. This topped the 3 weeks of unforgettable Yucatan experience.
Hasta la victoria siempre: Ever onward to Victory.
In Havana, Cuba, in front of Che Guevara's most iconic statement.
After a long wait in Cancun airport and a terrifying flight in the middle of a hurricane which made us seriously doubt if we were actually going to make it, we finally landed in Cuba.
Amy loved visiting Cuba, strolling along the streets of Havana, fascinated as i was by this strange, socialist, way of life. I ate something dodgy and was bed bound for about 3 days out of our 1 week there, so Amy played nurse, and ran back and forth from pharmacies (and supermarkets to get extra wc paper because we were embarrassed to ask more to the hotel!!!). We did meet a lovely couple (she irish/german, he cuban) who invited us out to explore Cuba with them. We danced Reggaeton in a posh Cuba nightclub, and we strolled down the Malecon listening to random Cuban bands playing awesome music. We both wished we could stay longer, to get to know this island of idiosyncrasies deeper down and explore more, but it was still a perfect end to a perfect trip.
Debbie's Hen Do, Guernsey April 2011
Another year, another adventure. Our lovely Debbie was getting married in Guernsey in June 2011 so we all shot off to Guernsey for a Marine style hen do. Amy, Ruth and I flew over from Cardiff and LOVED spoiling Debbie the whole week end. Inclusive of a SUPER cold dip in the Jersey sea.... Well, Amy might have gotten her ankles wet....:) If there is something about Amy, she always ALWAYS looks stylish no matter what the occasion, even during this hen do, like in any other situation. Amazing!
Rome week end
Another trip that i didn't want to do alone, and i knew asking Amy would be a winner, was Rome. I was going for a week end, to look at wedding dresses. Amy, both curious, fascinated by the idea of going to Rome, and being the supportive friend that she's always been, came with me. We met one of my school friends, i was on top of the world. 2 of my very best long-term friends and I, enjoying strolling about Rome, being fashionable, young and happy... what more can a girl want!
When i got married in Sicily in 2010 Amy was of course there, brought lovely Jane along too, and had a few really great fun celebratory days!
Fun fun fun!
Between hen dos, Cardiff outings, nights out in Barry, strolls in the countryside, visiting friends, dinners with the girlies etc, we never got bored at the week ends. Amy and I would jump into the car, too afraid to miss out on yet another adventure, and we had fun, together...lots! It was always difficult living in different countries and not being able to just pop in and see each other and organise things at the drop of a hat, but when we could, we would!
the best night out EVER with Heddus, John and Chris
Night out in Barry
Greg's 30th Cardiff
Dinner with Susi and Vicky in Monthemer road
Clubbing in Bath (my "roman" hen do)
Quadbiking in Somerset
with Ruth and Molly
New Year walk, Southerndown 2011
a walk in Wells
I've always been able to rely on Amy to come and find me, whether in Ireland, in Wales, in London, in Germany or in Italy. She would ALWAYS find a good week end to come and visit. She would not pass at the chance of a week end away, a girls' get-together and some sightseeing. I have always loved that in Amy. Here are a few shots of our week end in Dresden, when she came to visit us a couple of years ago. Amy has always been ready to take off and travel. And so she also came to visit us in Dresden, spent time with us here visiting the city, playing with the kids, having quality time and tasting the local beer. It was, as always, lovely to have her to stay, and making her, once again, part of my life.
